Last One (Challenge) for October

CSI 365 Special File No. S365 - 8

http://csicolorstoriesinspiration.ning.com/forum/topics/case-file-no-s365-8-special-scrap365-case-file-closes-october-31-

This one was a real test for me, I wasn't too sure about the eclectic palette (to me - but that's probably because it has red in it!). But, once I got my head around it - and found the perfect paper - Fancy pants - Meology (this is such a funky range with a cute and quite nostalgic feel), I really enjoyed putting it all together.  Have I solved this case? Maybe my light blue is not teal enough - it looked different before!

This is my 50's Glam layout:
Featuring a glam shot of my mum, and some funny journaling and 'tips' from "How to Look After Your Husband", written, of course in the 50's. I remember when her and dad were going out to a cabaret, or dinner or dance... they always looked so glamorous and fine -
and a very nice looking couple!

Evidence:  I have used Chevrons, a cloud, craft background, flowers, textured paper (I dry embossed white cardstock with a chevron folder and I added Glossy Accents to some shapes on the patterned paper, and fussy cut them), layered elements,
semi circle buttons and misting.
Testimony:  Childhood memory (although this photo was taken before I was born), I remember my mum always did look glamorous when she went out, and I was so proud of how both my parents always scrubbed up! I journaled (sub titled) on a cloud, my tags are a numbered time line of events (to look after your husband when he arrives home), my tags (and journaling around the page border) would now be considered "quirky" to say the least!

I even got to use my new Deep Red Stamps - how cool are they -
so many fun uses! Available at Scrap Matrix.
This ended up being really fun and I am happy with how it turned out!

Thanks for stopping by, cheers, Vicki

Entry Blooper - LSG - October

I just uploaded Window Kitty for Lindy's Stamp Gang Colour Challenge... but I didn't realize it wasn't allowed to be a double layout! I had to crop it to a square! So, I only entered half of it.... Lucky the title was not spread across  both pages - but my journaling is not included.
Oh well, next month I will know better.
I still love it! It made me laugh. Another page scrapped. Can now shop for next month's challenge! Winning all round.

Cheers, Vicki

Lindy's Stamp Gang Colour Challenge - October

http://blog.lindystampgang.com/color-challenge-info/

Isn't it Beautiful - I love Lindy's colours - the mists and the pigments are delightful to use - and they don't clog!

Here is what I came up with... Window Kitty

I diluted some of the prescribed colours to compliment my photos,
hence my tones are more muted -
(plus I couldn't get the actual colours - I had to improvise!)
I used:
Cream Cardstock and Basic Grey patterned papers,   Lindy's Moon Shadow Mists and Starburst Mists (a bit of a mixture to get the colours I needed), but am most happy with the way the Gossamer Gold and the Black Orchid Silver came up.
This is the link to see more of the Lindy's Starburst products:
http://www.lindystampgang.com/starbursts/
I also used a brick stencil, some Prima stamps, a Martha Stewart edge punch (my favourite one!), some very fine tulle, crystals, muslin, twine and some Scrap Matrix flowers.

I am looking forward to seeing next month's colour palette!

Cheers, Vicki

Texture Tuesday

(with Once Upon a Sketch) http://onceuponasketchblog.blogspot.com.au/

I have never been a big fan of following a sketch - I am way too literal - and 'scared' of breaking the rules... how much can you alter it, my photos are the wrong way, my title does not fit where they say, there is only one layer of paper showing (I had better not use 2!), I don't like using starhttp://onceuponasketchblog.blogspot.com.au/s (and the sketch has stars on it!)... many reasons I have not done sketches.
So, today... it was time to get out of another very comfortable zone, and be inspired by a sketch. Once Upon a Sketch (was a great place to start!)
Here is the sketch
Journalling Theme: "The women/girls etc in our lives..."

This is my interpretation

This is the 'hidden' journaling, in a little folder, behind the fence
Supplies I used:
The brand new Maja Design papers from the Vintage Autumn and Spring Basics ranges
Kaisercraft & some 'homemade' resin flowers
Prima stamps with Tim Holtz distress inks.
Embossing folders - script and swirls
Muslin, tulle and a little string of pearls
AND -  new (to Scrap Matrix) Imagine Crafts IrRESISTible spray (in Wedding Dress).

I really planned to see more of the beautiful patterned papers, because they just looked perfect with the photo, but my embellishments kind of took over. Ooops. They made a perfect background and feel for the page still.
However, I loved the IrRESISTible spray, it creates a real texture and almost a gloss. I gessoed the chipboards, then sprayed, and it speckled, pooled and glistened.
I will be getting more of these in. I only ordered a few, as an experiment, thanks Gaye Fuller! I had never heard of them, but I will order more soon!
Here is the link to see what colours I have so far:

Thanks for stopping  by.

On a Roll

I have wanted an opportunity to use the Authentique - Classique Elegant Collection for quite a while, so really this challenge was just
the prompt that I needed!
I actually hate to admit this... but I am enjoying doing single layouts!!!!  Shhhh, please don't tell! I am almost embarrassed to admit it. However, I have started a new album, just for challenge page entries, because, really,
I don't want them mixed in with my doubles! lol
I have never ever been a single layout scrapper. In the past, I am sure I have driven some instructors mad, by trying to buy more product (sometimes I had to buy 2 kits!), stretching the design, and basically ending up with something that (at least) I liked - and was happy putting in my albums. Anyway...

CSI - October Challenge no. 144 - Creativity

http://csicolorstoriesinspiration.ning.com/
I love this site - so so very inspiring!

My Evidence: Light Globe, dots, flowers, phrase stickers, metal and buttons
Testimony: Journaling spot and my sub title is my journaling about how I love to create.
I used: 7 Dots Cold Country, Authentique Classique Elegance, PL journal card, transparency, Petaloo Flowers, Prima letter stickers and buttons, Scrap Matrix metal and more flowers.

I think  I need to get better at taking these photos of pages....
Thanks for stopping by, Cheers, Vicki

Testing Testing..

I am wondering if this is all working. If you have come across my little blog, can someone please post a comment, just so I know that part is working. Be nice!
Cheers, Vicki

I posted my entries!

I did it and it was very easy, as everyone said it was of course... It is kind of exciting, putting your work/projects/creations 'out there', inviting people to comment on, like, dislike (or whatever!) your personal style, and kind of a bit scary too. Oh well, it's done now, and I think I am going to enjoy creating pages inspired and (almost) directed by someone else. It will sometimes take me out of my comfort zone, and encourage/inspire me to try new things... colours, styles, products, themes etc
Gee, this blogging business can sure take up a lot of time! Fun though. I think I will love my blog!
Cheers, thanks for stopping by, Vicki

Feeling Inspired

I have done another 2 challenge layouts, and really enjoyed the process. Of course I have spent hours looking for and at many many challenge sites.
I think  have chosen my favourites.
White With One has always been a beautiful place to visit, as well as the Colour Room, which I joined a couple of years ago, but never entered anything. Others that have inspired me are Scrap Around the World (see proposed entry below), Jot Magazine (see below), CSI (have some supplies ready), Once Upon a Sketch, Stuck? Sketches, Scrap the Girls, Scrap the Boys... yes, I have spent a loooong time looking around. Probably could have got 3 layouts done in that time!

Scrap Around The World - October

  • Melissa Francis - Resin Birdcage.
  • Scrap Matrix - Flowers, Charms, Filigree

Jot Magazine - October

  • Prima Epiphany 3D Embellishments and assorted buttons and letters
  • Tim Holtz Metal Words and Roman Numerals

I have been too busy playing to learn how to upload them... that is next on my list - after I unpack, price, create file, upload to Scrap Matrix site... all the NEW products I have received this week! And there are lots there that I want to play with too....

Cheers and thanks for looking.

Time to Blog!

I have started this 4 times... and deleted each time. I am not really sure how to start! I did post once on the original Scrap Matrix Blog, and fully intended to keep that up. Ooops. I think I was subconsciously blocked, because to me, that was Rae's Scrap Matrix Blog, and I was a guest.
I know I could have redesigned that one, but it is too pretty to change - it just is not me. So, now I have a new one, and no excuses left, so here goes.
I have never entered a challenge before, but spent hours looking at challenge sites and so many beautiful entries, thinking... one day, maybe a should take the plunge. And apparently, you need a blog in most instances anyway, so no excuses left there either!
One of my favourite challenge sites has always been White With 1 http://whitewith1.blogspot.com/ so that is where I have decided to start, and created an entry yesterday for the Wild Orchid palette.
It started off well, and I was really pleased, had all my elements and colours all planned... then I spritzed - with the perfect (tested) colour - and as it dried on the texture paste it went pink!!!! More layers of colour to try to fix it... am posting it anyway. It will be worth a giggle if nothing else.

Now I just have to work out how to enter it!!!
